225 promax erratic water pressure gauge?

Noticed last trip of the summer out my water pressure gauge was bouncing around a lot. Between 5&14 psi while cruising on plane. I took a video but can’t figure out how to upload. Didn’t seem to be over heating or anything. Boat ran great. I’m suspecting poppet valve? Sport master mid. Water pumps less than a year old. Needle on gauge bounces back and forth pretty violently. Good sTeady 3-5 psi at idle. Any ideas?

You can see the gauge bouncing around for a few seconds in this video

Curious if this is why I also have a kind of blubbery loaded up take off after idling for extended periods of time. Maybe the poppet is stuck and filling the mid up with water

Crap in the water ports and poppet dump will do that.

Running in crappy water a lot I have to mess with that often. I’ve always got crud in my water passages and that’s rhe first sign ofnit.

Your saying that will cause the loaded up thing at idle or the bouncing water pressure gauge? Or both?

Both depending on where and how bad the restrictions are.

Ive had pebbles all in my passages and sand and crud and seen 15-20 at idle until it blows some by

Simple and quick attempt to clean system, back flush with good pressure. If you have stats open and check them also.

Talked to the guys that rebuilt this motor for the p/o and he said that it’s bormal for thto gauge to jump around at a certain rpm. The poppet doesn’t know what to do so it opens and closes. Kind of makes sense?

Maybe, but I’ve only noticed it when I’ve had crud in the passages. It’s always steady that I’ve noticed normally, especially if the therms are open and it’s warmed up.

Not with the gauge flickering that fast, mine have always been pretty steady and it drops about 2 psi as the t stats cycle. When the poppet opens it drops from 15-18 to 10 and then the pressure builds steady to 30 psi as speed increases.

I agree with Capt. It should not bounce but move gradually in either direction.
