150opti merc or 175XS mercury opti for a newer motor. Very stingy on fuel. Older 200 merc for a lighter but more thirsty motor.

The weight and performance given by a hopped up motor would be more than off set by the xtra fuel that it would burn and would need to be carried. A 175XS would have a 6 gph fuel burn at 35 mph on reg gas with nearly 200 hp at 430#s. So figure about 6 mpg with a good prop and with a 30 gal tank you would have a range of 150 miles with a small reserve. Hard to match except with an e-tec 150hp which are strong 150 hp motors.

Decent but if 35 is all the boat will be doing 6gph probably isn't the best. Almost 200 prop is good.

3-4 mpg is what my 200 EFI merc gets on my V-King. It's not bad. But it would be 8 mpg or so with a 175XS opti.
