Old racing formula 1 or 2 bridgeport

I have recently been thinking of replacing a 1984 200 merc with a bridgeport and while I was looking around I found a 2.4 bridgeport from an old formula race program . So it's a carbed and complete power head . So I'm told they have shaved heads and larger carbs and jetted and heard they run the opposite direction to usual for the #6 gearcases . So it means changing carbs to stock , flywheel and stator and stock heads, and I'm not sure but does starter also need changed up . I am not that knowledgable about outboards first of all but the powerhead can be had and just asking if heads and carbs with a flywheel and stator change can these items be bought relatively easily, or is flywheel specific to bridgeport and expensive .
The reason I ask I suspected the block ,rods and pistons - basic short block to be the expensive items and if the carbs , flywheel and such is rather generic I think I would move forward on this . Your education on the matter please . They do have some 12 inch midst and #6 gearcases available as well but that means running their props as well . I'm interested in the performance of the Bridgeport but not knowledgable enough yet to jump in .

I believe heard that reference, so can you expand that answer sir so as to better understand the class reference as far as the motor goes sir , I believe block and internals where spec and then carbs larger , heads shaved just as class rules allow . So a very suitable short block as far as reciprocating assembly just a tad high on compression .

Easily converted to right hand with your starter, flywheel and throttle linkage.

Thanks for the response so these were bridgeports or , I believe the motors I'm looking into are BP . Just trying to get informed before going forward .

Yeah, I have the apba spec sheet somwhere. I believe they were ported a bit hotter than a standard BP but not a whole bunch.

I will be getting a far more in depth discussion on these with him and I will understand the motor better now that I have been educated a bit here thanks . I can only suspect port matching is all that is allowed but don't know the rules . He mentioned carbs being larger possibly for the rpm that these sit at for the 20 minutes or so of race time . Is a stock carb rack easily had and heads . I believe he said fuel mix ,compression and carbs are all they are allowed and pinning of ring pins and improving reliability for duration with reciprocating assemblies with balancing and deburring . Not sure yet but he mentioned a shops name that they all came through for the series.

I'd leave the carbs on it if it's already setup. As said above, you just need a flywheel, starter and throttle/timing linkage to change rotation

There are four of these powerheads from the program coming available and some 12 inch mids- double hydrolic and some #6 drives so if I your interested let me know and i will help . The power heads are 2500 each . All I have been told is they were good . So I can't tell you leak down or compression but was told they are from a race program and there are some cowls and skirts available as well . It seems like a great opportunity for the membership and preserving a bit of history .
