    Bobs nose cone or not?

I have a 21’ daytona, just bought a 300 promax for it. The promax came with a stock fleetmaster lower unit. I heard the bobs nose cone runs fast and is 5X cheaper. How well does bobs cone hold up against high speeds and occasionally rough water? Or just save up for a sporty ? Input appreciated.

The lower unit I have now has both a stock low water pickup as well as the side water pickup

The bob's cone properly installed will hold up to anything. For the 3 liters they have a dual hose setup for more water. They also sell a torque tab for the skeg to help with the paddlewheel effect of the prop when the motor is raised up. It is a toss up as to which is better. The bobs may be faster by a few and does cost less. The sporty has a big prop shaft, and is made for surfacing which your fleetmaster is not. Both have their advantages, most would put the money toward a sport master for it's superior design. I run a bobs on my stream, but it is flat water only and just occasionally run surfaced for any period of time. No problems so far. But when you surface any lower the maintenance goes way up. Waterpumps, gear oil, bearing carriers and seals need more frequent replacement.

I would be curious to see how high i could run the fleetmaster with stock p/u and at what speed.
if the hull will run the number you want and happy with that ......idk if i spend the money for the few mph and increase maintenance mentioned above?
i know the rule of thumb is every mph after 85 cost big bucks before and after mods.
21 daytona is a bigger boat and may not need/want the ultra high propshaft location to run the number you want.
if i could try one first and get solid results worth what im willing to spend, fat shaft sporty all the way.
what is a fleetmaster worth on the used market? sell it to offset cost, may be close and there you go.

I have installed lwp lowers on boats that actually slowed them down. I would say about 1/2 the boats with lwp lowers don't need them.
