    Land and Sea Turbo Cowl

Does anyone know anything about the Land and Sea Turbo Cowl?
    Like how many were made?
    Do they have any value?
Why don't you ever see them for sale?
I think its a pretty nostalgic item.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

I have only seen one ever. That guy had a Land and Sea turbo two stroke Merc and blew it up quickly. Did not have it very long. It is my understanding that turbocharging a two stroke is difficult to make live. So I do not think there is much of market for one of those hoods.

I am more curious about the cowl. Like did they only make 1 cowl per turbo motor or did they produce 1000 cowls but only made 300 engines and had a surplus either way. . Could you buy a turbo motor without the cowl, could you buy a cowl without a turbo motor. That sorta stuff.

Only one I have ever seen didn't have a cowl.

I have a N.O.S. never used Land and Sea Turbo Cowl with the lower pan. Thats why i am curious about them. It's good to know the history sometimes.

An old chap up north here had one that ran. The reason he had no cowl is he installed the upper crank seal upside down so it would stop pushing itself out of the upper cap or wearing the lip out and pushing the spring through under boost.Or both. But it would push a vaporized charge out of the seal and the cowl either exploded or caught fire, or both after he tried to restart after a run when the bendix engaged and made a spark.

He ended up with a homemade bendix injection from porche parts and fed it way too much fuel and worked the way down to where it "ran". This was when outboard efi was in it's infancy and I learned the term "it would make a nice lamp because that is all its good for". I was 14 or 15 at the time and remember the whole mess piled up in the corner of his shop and a brand new bridgeport on his boat.

land and sea would sell you the turbo kit with or without the hood . The hood had a order no. so ordering the hood only was a option . I think Chris Carson was looking for parts for a turbo kit . If you are not looking to use the parts , you can make his day or year if you have what he needs to finish his project ..
