If your into fuel economy on a boat, you better just buy a sail boat. expect 1 to 4 mpg.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

When i retired will have lots of time, then i can sail with no time wory.
I use most expensive fuel in the world at my country. Abut 1,3 usd per liter
Any way, this research is not about economy. It is about planning long distance cruise with my boat powered by 225ho. And and i want to share some cool stuff, this forum is about that i think

Every boat is different. Your better off experimenting gallon by gallon. Then you will know how much your particular boat consumes

As a very general rule, when I would design a new fuel tank or tanks for a new design outboard powered boat, I would directly relate the horsepower of the outboard(s) to the wide open throttle fuel consumption as follows: 200 h.p. = 20 gallons per hour, 150 h.p. = 15 gallons per hour, 300 h.p. = 30 gallons per hour...and so on. Note, this is for a single engine installation, so multiply accordingly. An outboard does not know what kind of boat it is on...it uses the same amount of fuel per hour when propped properly to its wide open throttle maximum rated r.p.m.

My start point exactly is that idea.
WOT consumption datas is working exactly for me as hoped.
I should be cruise about 2500rpm that equal to 30mph, just after the plane. I'm trying to analyze the correction ratio for mid rpm from that datas. thanks...

the old "bass and walleye" mag posted that type of data. a 2004 200xs and gran sport allison w/ was the best with 7.5 at mid speed [40] and 3.5 at wot. my voyager with a 2004 200xs was 7.4 and 3.3. i dont see a 12mpg at least thru 2010 when the mag ended.

The 12mpg is on the Allison site for the smaller hull.

if maximum fuel economy is what your after you need to invest in a fuel flow meter and GPS to find the "sweet spot"for your particular boat. I bought one for my Lowrance HDS 5 and was quite surprised at what I found.
    My boat is an Allison XB2002 with a 2001,totally stock,carb 200 Johnson.
Before I bought the flowmeter I would cruise at 45-50 mph thinking that was probably the most efficient speed. At this speed itwas showing a max of 4.3-4.7 mpg at a steady cruise. I found that increasing my speed to about 65 mph improved my mileage to nearly 6mpg. I verified this many times and found that I was averaging 4.5 mpg for the tank using both the Lowrance data and the old fashion method of topping it off and dividing the miles traveled by the gallons used.
On my Allison you can clearly feel it lifting at 60-65 mph. Hull is getting much drier and mre efficient at that point
