    Johnson V4 Crossflow recirculation system

OMC recirculation system that is on v4 Crossflows.....what does it do, and what would happen if it was removed/plugged?

On my motor (V4 1980 Crossflow) i have 4 check valves (Plastic ones mot brass as the norm) they are on the intake manifold below each carb.

The check valves hoses lead to each by pass cover.

Are these needed ? i have read that they help idling but i will be fitting CCM reeds so can i do away with these ?

I have mine all pluged with a rubber cap on my motor and actually got some plugs for it as on one of my motors had the brass check valve and someone tried to solder it closed but it didnt completely plug it up. The threads are 1/4 pipe thread, you can get those plugs and do that to all of them as well. I think it was an EPA thing to try and drain extra oil/gas back into the motor to be burnt and not drip into the water.

Did you notice any issue with slow speed loading etc or doesn't apply to your usage?

Never had a motor with them in use. I was told they were just for EPA regulations. Older crossflows do not have them at all.

its called the puddle drain system.
it is designed to drain ( pumped via one way valves) any fuel away that puddles after the reeds at low speed and feed it back into the engine in a manageable way.
It was changed over the years to make it work better.

OK i understand it now. I will have to look for two new plastic ones as two of mine dont work. May even have to bite the bullet and order 4 of the brass ones at £150
