If you have a casting that says V225 is that automatically a 225hp or can it be a 200hp as well?

if it's production and came with tha 7 petal front its '80/'81 225 but can be tha '82 200 if its tha 5.. they used same block in '82... "leftover's" from '81..

seems ta me like tha "production 225" was stamped a little different than tha hi perf. your picture is showin'?

All the Mercury V-6 blocks of those years, whether it was a 175, 200 or 225, had that V-225 mark. Including some of the Hi-Perf. carb motors blocks.

Pretty sure my blue stripe external trim 200 2.4 is an 83, it’s all stock I’ll have to pull the numbers again to see but I’m pretty sure it’s 83.

Also the ports look bigger than my 86, want to fix it one day to see which one runs better

I have a 81 225 merc. trying to find out what the compression should be. Tested it and got 90 lbs. for all 6 holes that doesn't sound good. Bought a 83 v-king, and this motor came with it. Can any one advise.

From what i am learning, they do not like to come apart a bunch of times. I would say time for pistons and rings and seals.

I don't think that's necessarily bad compression for an old motor with stock guts. As long as they're even is most important. Does it run ok? Did you have throttles open and all plugs out? (leads grounded).

Could be a bad compression gauge. Cheaper gauges seem to be all over the place on accuracy. If you could borrow one from someone else and retry the test, or do a leak down test on the motor. jmo
