Question Info Requester - Paul Heathman's SST140 boat

This boat will be my next restoration...but I always like to know as much about the owner/driver/team, as well as the equipment. Would appreciate your input. I have just acquired the rig, so have not been able to contact Paul yet.

The boat was used in its final days as a display boat by the Miller American team. It was bolted to the trailer and has some needed hull repairs that Gary Pugh will soon make right. It came with two powerheads (2.4L-200-carb and 2.0L chrome bore Analog FI SHOW ENG) complete with the manual up/dwn mid-section (also stamped SHOW ENG), 8-studs-up gearcase and prop. Will do the 2.4L carb first and then the 2.0FI motor.

Paul was a local racer from Lakeland also home to Harley Wilson and Mickey Garrett. When I met Paul he was driving a G production Royal Craft , Then he switched to tunnels first a Ron Gann G boat than a E boat by ed Haupner. I lost track of him after 1980 nationals when I stopped driving. Hal is probably Hal Stata. I worked with Hal in St Petersburg at Stowaway Cove Marina, before he moved to Lakeland, right after he got back from Vietnam. His wife ran a ski school at lake Alford in Lakeland. Hal was great mechanic and also ran a cut down Cobia with a BP engine. Hope this helps.

Paul and my dad were good friends I remember he was a realtor at one time in Lakeland and moved to North Carolina I believe, he was sponsored by Lowenbrau at one time, that was my favorite beer back in high school, he bought my dads sport E boat and set a kilo record with it, burnt the power head up at the end of the run he was running the motor so high. I was testing my E class boat the first time Curt put Dancing Bear in the water. It was revolutionary for the class at the time. He had an interesting interpretation of the water cooled exhaust manifold rule.

I mostly remember Paul running the SG Hauptner in the late 70's. I think he and Mark Hauptner were pretty close. Mark is still building boats in Palm Beach county I believe. He may know how to reach Paul.
