Man, I went through all of this a few years ago. Good luck finding one of those uncorns these days. If you do find one, they are very pricey. Do you have a coned lower with low water pickups?

I found that you need to hold it there for a bit and kill it, it only takes a few seconds as it comes down in rpms to give you a bad read.

I have had the same problem, I learned from an OMC tech that you can take a regular prop cut half of each blade off, rebalance and it works great--as a test wheel it ventilates enough to get most any rpm, but still loads down the motor, if not enough load leave more blade area on the next one. We use damaged props that would normally end up in the recycle bin so the cost is small. I have some with different hubs in the shop when the need arises for different motors.

    Thanks Kevin...
We just did mine at the launch ramp a couple weeks ago. Left boat on the trailer, ran 1 eng at a time up to 5000 rpm in gear with mechanic on the timing light. Ran with my mazco 28 prop. Had to repeat a few times on each motor.
Boat feels like to wants to jump off the trailer, a little scary but we got the job done.
Stb motor ended up being way retarded...went from 5600/5800 rpm wot to 6000/6200. Picked up 5mph.
