Boat addict.....I have the same motor ,except 25 inch mid ,on my Paramount and I'm running the same speed with a 23 laser on the limiter. My prop shaft is about 3 inches below the pad.I've always heard the actions and Olympia were faster because of the bottom.Don't really have any suggestions, however when you get it dialed in I would like to know.

    Thanks for your info.
    So you have a merc 250? Running a 23 three blade? With a 1.75 gear ratio? Running +/- 63mph?
The prop shaft height is good info as well, I'm guessing your running a fleet master lower?

I will definitely update everyone on this thread as soon as I have more time to change my set up. My plan is to bolt my 6" jack plate to the transom then bolt my 10" jack plate to the 6", just for testing. By doing this I will be able to get my prop shaft lower, hopefully helping me to reduce prop slip and will give me more leverage to trim the boat out of the water more. Looking at everyone else's pictures my hull is more wet when running than all the pictures I've seen. Hopefully I will be able to get the bow up some more to air the hull out.

If this works I will purchase a hydraulic jack plate and redrill my mounting holes on the transom. To lower the height of the prop shaft.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions feel free to comment. All ears.

You can't 100% compare installed engine heights & prop selections, on the Paramount versus the Olympia/Action. Two different hull bottoms. Two different performing boats.

Yeah I agree with you. But knowing about how deep others are running their prop shaft will give me a better starting point. Without a doubt I'm to high right now.

If you have good water pressure a 4 blade prop will help on the plane off slippage and every where else too. More blade area in the water all the time. jm2cts

Last time I ran the boat with a 24 4 blade bravo and had 20% prop slip. Boat gets on plane good.

Something wrong with that prop. 20% slippage is way too much. Either a blade is whacked or not enough cup. About 10% is the most frequent slip factor.

What's up guys. So I just picked up a 250xs with a 25 inch. Initial setup will be with the 5.5 setback Jack plate. No timetable of when I will have the time to put everything together though.

Congratulations on the motor! Keep us posted on your numbers. If we keep this up we will definitely get the answer 20 or 25. So we both have the same boat with same engines but different shaft lengths. I'm looking forward to this.

What year is the 250xs you bought? Also what lower?

I have talked to the guy that owned this action before he sold it. He had a 20" 300 Pro Max with a sport master lower and 1.62 gear ratio. He was spinning a 26 pitch 4 blade. He also made his pad a little wider. In that video he was at 84mph, he said he has seen more out of it. So conservatively speaking low to mid 70's should be obtainable I would think with a 250xs.

If if you watch the motor in the beginning of the video he is moving his jack plate down. I think the reason for this is because as you are coming of plane you have to raise the motor height to prevent water from washing up the engine cowling.

Im think I'm going to need to run a similar set up and when coming off plane raise the engine. To me it's not that big of a deal but from time to time other people use my center console for a quick trip back to land. So I will need to explain how to operate it to each person now and hope for the best.
Or just quit letting people drive my boat haha.

JB I will be honest with you if you're looking for a simple easy boat to rig, run and if others drive I would probably go with a 25". I don't really see the advantages to a 20" hopefully someone else can explain.
I don't know who you guys are talking to, but that's me in that video with the 21action all of your information is incorrect. I ran a couple different setups on that boat. First setup was a 15" 300XS on a 21" Porta bracket. Boat ran great in this configuration, just had to be careful not to swamp the motor. The next setup was a Bob's 12" hydraulic jack plate and a 20" 300XS. 20" was slightly more user friendly but no real performance gains. Best speed was 84mph with a 30p et with a 1.75 sportmaster. Best all around prop was a 24p bravo, it would run 75mph on the limiter. If you guys have any questions I'd be happy to answer them.

I haven't had a lot of free time this year to mess with my set up. Best so far has been 68 mph on gps.
I feel confident that there is a little more in it but my motor mounts are shot. At 68 it becomes sketchy to say the least. I'm thinking that 70mph with current set up will be obtainable. Current set set up is 2005 merc 250xs stock, stock bravo 24 4blade, 10" Manual bracket, prop shaft 2" to 3" below the bottom.

Anyone else have any updates ?
