Engines were the same other then left hand rotation and right hand rotation. The rotation change was done by different, flywheel and starter. Left hand engines typically made a few more horsepower on the dyno.
the s3000 came with softer heads and a different fuel curve.

same blocks. same pistons for left and right..

maybe you should do righthand laps if your powerhead goes right and ssm to the left?

LOL. Yup. The 200XS IV case runs standard rotation in and opposite rotation out. The perfect direct drive case for someone that doesn't want to dick with swapping rotation on motors when going from a big case to a tunnel boat case. Sadly they're non existent used, and Merc wants stupid money for them new. Probably on the top of my want list but I doubt I'll ever find one.

Humm...I always thought the S3000 had 37cc heads, horn and I think an A10 ECU? I bought one in 2000 that was changed to RH and that's how it was set up. Rob, you know more than most , so I believe ya!

I know people that were sent s3000 powerhead rotating assembly as a drag same part number for rotating assembly because they “merc” didn’t have a drag in stock
i still can’t believe no one has access to Merc Racing part numbers and can show the numbers

I’ve always heard that the S3000/Drag P/H was the same and every parts catalog I’ve looked at said the same thing. I bought an S3000/Drag powerhead from Diamond in or about 1999 and they were the exact same part # back then. It came with the then-new O-ring heads in 26cc gasketed head equivalent (can’t remember the exact cc for the O-ring heads). I later installed the 21cc equivalent O-ring heads and I turned that motor 10,000+ RPMs on the back of a Mirage more times than I can remember. Sold it to a friend and he ran it a bunch of times and another friend bought the rig about a year ago and it’s still running like new. IIRC, all the pre-2001 2.5 motors came with the horn intake (I just bought a bone stock 2000 model Drag from a friend with a horn on it) and in 2001 Merc started selling the S3000/Drag motors with the Brucato SVS from the factory.
