I run twin s3000 on a waterski race boat over here. port runs lh and the starboard runs rh and don't have an issue at all. have run them bone stock, and modded, tight heads and standed with 225pm head gaskets etc no issues. pull 9200rpms in a race. will try in the next few weeks to run on dyno, will run one both ways and post the graft when done.

Originally merc made the single ring race piston for lhr and the 2 ring for rhr. I believe the wrist pin offset and profile of the piston is difference.

Originally the drag was a 2 ring? Is the piston part number for the s3000 and the drag now the same?

I ran the s3000/F1 pistons for 4-5 yrs with no issue turned over 10,700. There may a difference that I am unaware of but they worked fine for me.

Well put it this way the bros at diamond marine have sold me 12 pistons for two motors I have that one runs as a genuine s3000 so spinning LH and the other RH
and they new that they run on the same boat side by side and we have talked a lot about it and sold me pistons that are the same for both motors. 827352a18 and 827353a18 with no issues

It's been a long time but this is how I remember it. Same part number and same piston for S3000 and Drag. First two ring then single ring. Never saw separate part numbers for S3000 and drag pistons.
Engines were the same other then left hand rotation and right hand rotation. The rotation change was done by different, flywheel and starter. Left hand engines typically made a few more horsepower on the dyno.

I wonder if left hand engines run a little leaner on the port side like a standard rotation motor.
