Interesting thread. I am toying with removing 5.5” setback on my 8metre stepped hull. Worried I’ll loose speed. Surely the weight of a bracket has some negative impact too? Prop runs level with rear hull and runs fine. Needs tabs to plane though.

Only reason I want to remove is cause I can’t trim the engine up out of the water. And it will spend some time living in the water this year. Surely someone done a direct comparison.

Ended up w/8" on my Vector. That was w/a slimmed down OMC looper, but probably still 50 lbs heavier than your motor.
That was where it was at at 101.
    Motor was 2" bellow though.

That rig did lots of the things the experts said wouldnt work, including that much weight, that far back.

To me, set back is really basic.

Have a friend get a really good/close up shot or video of you at WFO.

If you have ANY up trim in the motor, as in, beyond vertical w/the water line, regardless of where the hull is, you need more set back.

Mine did everything well at 8", Id say you could do that or 10".
That was also w/a 543 lb (bare) hull too. So if yours is heavier, it would require more to see same result.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Not much different than Cody'z or anyone else's boat. They are all different and like special things.

I think u can work with a prop guy and make it work either way A good prop guy can totally change the characteristics of a prop.
Nitrous is like a slut. u wanna hit it but you know there will be consequences.

    Mine runs best @ 1 1/2 to 2 degrees negative. I'm 1/2 inch back,and 1/2 inch above,running a 26 Tillman Yamaha.Runs flat,0 to 100 quick,and never touch the trim.

been a year...since ive taken a lil lip of the pad (about .010") and was able to raise motor a tad (around 1/4" above now)

the ET has been the ticket on keeping bow down with plenty of lift.. low rake!
still believe i could benefit if i went closer with motor but setup wont allow me to get motor low enough. and if i went farther back it would only cause more negative trim.
