Quincy Racing Deflector, D Mod Mercury Mark 55

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/132403128506

I have talked to Paul Christner, of the Quincy Racing family, and he has authenticated the motor in the photos as one of there Deflector race engines.

8,400 is like a brick wall for rpm of the 4's; just about everyone spins that fast except for correctly modified 30 cubic inch 4's

The pads are welded in from the back, thru holes drilled to let the welder start at the back of the pad. A large fixture jig slug holds them in correct position so the piston won't hit them.

I thought something like that. Could you do it to a inline Merc?

I am sure you could, but they are already at the verge of detonation on most boats and while they were in production Merc advised reducing the timing advance from 27° to 21°. You would have to run $8 to $20 a gallon race gas or methanol.

Not sure it would be less work than moving the crank closer to the deck
