I prefer an apartment with a garage, let them do all the maintenance and yard work, I'll just do my own laundry and cleaning..... 1/2 a day. I'm single, no kids, so no real desire for a house really. What I save by having an apartment, I pt into my IRA. I pay $1200 a month, and don't have the expenses of upkeep of a house that can be thousands a year. I'm negotiating the compensation for this wreck, so my rent this month should be about half.

    Makes a lot of sense.

The cast iron rots from the inside out. mostly its from piss (acid) sitting in the bottom of the pipe. takes 50 to 80 yrs for that to happen. They didn't know that back then. In 100yrs they will be laughing that we used plastic, like what the hell were we thinking. LOL. Its just a part of the process. I run into it on 20% of my old house remodel jobs. Its all fake bs work with butt loads of profit. But I don't mind, i get my cut. Iron pipes with rotted bottoms are totally linerable with about a 100yr warranty. We do that too. Woohoo

Usually they need an opening big enough for humans to go down and install the liner. Its quite an interesting process. In a nutshell, its a vinyl sock lined with thick gooey adhesive that goes through a steam machine inside out and it is reversed as it enters the long drain line adhering to the walls of anything. Its pushed through with air pressure so it is continuously being forced to the outer wall. Google it, just make sure you have 4 hrs to waste. Its mesmerizing and cool. Last house I did had to dig a trench, replace 50' of asbestos piping with pvc then do a full liner from the street to the house I think it was 70' and that was 9k. Asbestos piping becomes soft and turns into an oval and actually causes low spots that hold waste and water.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.
