    Sportmaster question

.... is there a way to tell the gear ratio without taking it apart.... 2.5 ...20 in .....powerhead is off right now..... I'm sure their way of spinning it and watching how many times the prop shaft rotates but I just thought maybe there's a simpler way I didn't know if the cases were different sizes or what ....somebody give me the answer to this stupid question I'd appreciate it thanks guys

If you take it off it may be stamped on the mating surface and if it is you still need to clock it to make sure of no gear change.

Not a stupid question at all Eagle...I've had to spin them by hand (Stillson wrench) before myself just to make sure. Like Vnemous said sometimes you can't completely trust the numbers...if they are even there.
96 Bullet 20cc, Yamaha OX 250+, 10" jack, labbed 30" Bravo LH w/1.25" exhaust pipes, counter rotating Bob's lower...it goes faster when you spin it the other way...

You could remove the plugs...put the unit in gear, and rotate the crankshaft and count the prop revolutions....
Probably should disconnect the battery also.
If the power head is not clean, I would also recommend blowing off the area around the plugs, so you don't suck in dirt. Engines don't really appreciate dirt very much.

if the powerhead is off, rotate the input shaft to the lower unit. Just don't scratch up the shaft.
