I had a 16 Speedcraft (16ft Allison copy) and had a 20inch OMC V-6 mounted to a 4inch set back plate. Floated just fine, Backed up just fine and handled just fine.

I don`t know what racervboat has going on but I had no problems at all.

Same here. My 16' Hydrostream floats just fine with a 20" 2.4 on a 6" setback.

The Allison is a very narrow and shallow hull but I got this boat from a friend and he put a 2.5 on it and told me it would not float the motor or would not handle it stopping anyway? I personaly did not try to put a v-6 on it myself??

And stopping is way easy. Water wouldn't top the splash well shutting down. Really kinda crazy how well it worked and handled like a dream

Another shot of Mike's boat, about to get weighed. That's Mike in the boat, Yammer holding the straps. Thought I had a better pic, but this is it...

In 1975 I bought my first 15 Ally with a '73 short 1500. Later I put a T3 on it, very similar to the one pictured here. Benny Robertson also ran a similar boat. Later I bought a 16 Ally, decked it over and ran it with a 2.4 powerhead in the old T3. I ran a SSM gearcase on both. The 15' boat went 106 at the NOA Kilos in Knoxville and the decked over 16 ran 115 there a couple of years later. These boats will run very fast with a short V6 and will float it fine. The picture first shown here pictures one run entirely too high and is a serious blow over risk at anything near that trim angle at speeds in the 80's, let alone triple digits.

Very boat cool boat really like the resto T3 . Nuts a swinging in the first pic ! , the side shot in post 15 looks more like it . What gearcase did you use on the 12" mid ? Did you use a plate adapter ? I have a coned case from a 86 115 that I'm looking at cutting the driveshaft down and adapting to my 12" mid .
