Check your fuel pick ups
I have been through several project boats over the last few years and have found a common problem I thought I would share. If you can access your fuel pick up it might not be a bad idea to check it. I have seen the filter screens collapsed/blocked, clamps loose on two piece units and then there is this little jewel that was the stock pick up out of an Allison aluminum tank. Notice the wire used to attach the rubber lower hose to the upper aluminum tube. Then, of course, check out what was going on to the lower, flexible piece. If you had your pristine, nik plated, high performance motor humming along at 7500 rpm and you ran it down below half a tank of fuel the results would be bad. Very bad. I am replacing all of mine with stainless steel tubes purchased through a heavy truck fuel tank supply house. Just cut them to fit. No filter screen. Use an inline filter right out of the tank and after the fuel pump.
