Years ago I spoke with Mr Hauenstine (spelling?) at Mercury and they actually had a plan to build a second one that had one cowl. The powerheads on the one in the pic were strait mounted and the second motor would have them close together and canted inward at the front. I don`t know if they ever did.
He said The Wizzard had more power than the V-8 but number one problem was steering torque. He also said that he and his brother designed the motor while sitting in a restaurant and drawing on a paper napkin.

The rules were changed after this set up to state that only one crankshaft was allowed per boat so I think it got shelved.

That is funny. Everybody is looking at it like....OH CRAP!
I wonder if the rule change would have come that fast if it would have been two OMC powerheads.1970 15' Allison/135 Chrysler stacker

I doubt it. When the OMC Wankle/rotary came out and dominated racing it took a few years to rule it out.

Taking a close look at the transom, I don't see any support rods from the engine brackets going down into the hull like I have seen on some champ boats. Might have helped prevent the departure of the engine!
Does anyone know if that is a T-4 gear case or a modified offshore ssm.1970 15' Allison/135 Chrysler stacker
