I like a core and floor on my boats. Just easier to walk around in it. If you want a true competition look and slightly less weight an open stringer set up would be the way to go. Really your choice, and based on how you plan on using it. Center dteer and fuel moved fwd tends to work well in a comp layout. Side steer works better with a floor. jm2cts

Having some form of flat surface is nice, plus sandwich panel is very light.

    This ^^^

Converting a lake boat into a comp is tedious and in the end won't be a whole lot lighter than the lake version (production version) vs a true comp boat is significantly lighter.

I "believe" the production boats are laid up heavier than the comp versions, my V-King is anyway.

Over here in uk we dont run boats with a core, we have strong stringer and keel set up.
it is much stronger than core, as most our boats are run in rough water (sea ) and a core would not stand up for too long.
we still have a floor from side to side and front to back etc, it is the strongest, but also heaviest construction.
BUT with a lot of American boats the thickness of the hulls is pretty thin and a core is needed to give the bottom its strength..

if your not going in rough water then a core is probably plenty good enough.

Not sure what it weighs. It isn't finished yet. I weighed the deck. It weighs #140 lbs ( Without the windshield ). The boat will be lighter than stock, but not as light as a real comp.

We have had some terrifically fast boat designs over here that would give anything a good run on a lake, but when the going gets tough so many of them
    have failed the test.

Nothing compares to a strong built boat, ultra light are ok for calm lakes.

old school boats go out just about the same time as the new boats come in, so it realy is a matter of mega high speed or just very high speed that
decides how to build the boat.

I prefer a boat that can run over a big log and carry on, not one that will disintegrate like a grenade .

    Underestimating a core/stringer combination I think.

Lighter and stronger than production boats....on this side of the pond anyway. jus my 1/2 penny

After a 75 mph impact with a log this spring my cored boat shrugged it off and kept on it's way. Had to drill the impacted wood spilnters out of the water pick up holes in the gear case, and pull the seat cover out of my ass though.
