Checkmate Starliner Open Bow
This was to be my final FrankenRude V-8 motor project hull but I'm out of time and motivation and another long term project has surfaced.
I sold these boats new and we had one w/a XP 300 V-8 and I thought it was the ultimate open bow performance boat.
80 through chop, driving w/one hand.
Checkmate built very, very few of these boats and that was 30 yrs ago.
They now have a cult following.
I've re-rigged it the way I wanted it so massive power wouldnt break or wreck it.
Currently has 18" of set back w/turnbuckle transom supports. They are trick and well done.
10" of the set back is a hydraulic Bobs w/gauge.
I converted to hydraulic steering. Steering and plate hose are run thorough bulkhead connectors w/custom hoses. Very trick, very clean.
Even has the factory optional tri pod ski pylon.
Also has a dual pyro, depth finder, ship to shore, new (remote) smart phone compatible stereo.
Deck has been buffed since these shots.
There is one seam on the bench seat base that is pulling lose but otherwise, interior is as new.
Trailer is tandem axle w/alloy wheels, new bearings, brakes, guide posts and a spare.
When I bought it it had the orig '91 225 OMC on it and ran a best of 56 MPH.
This was GPS not hypothetical like some claims Ive seen.
W/8" of set back and a decent wheel, I saw 66/67 w/that motor.
W/a stought 225 you should be into the low 70's. W/a 250+, a good wheel and proper set up it ought to be a an absolute blast of an 80 MPH family boat.
W/the now 18" of set back, it has totally change the personality of the boat!
Ive seen negative reports of similar set ups but I absolutely love its new personality.
Think-went from wet bottom, heavy ski boat ride to, light fast, aired out Allison.
Plus, the 18" of set back comes from the 10" hydraulic, 6" manual and 2" spacers so make it what you want.
Unfortunately my boat repair business has kept me too busy to finish dialing my 3.3 FrankenRude III motor to see what she really has but was expecting 80 w/that motor..
This hull was to be for the V-8 project but after two still born attempts, Ive decided to let it sacrifice itself for the greater good.
Im sure Ill regret this as thias is a VERY, VERY rare boat and draws a crowd everywhere it goes..
Thanks all.
$5500 less power.
Gary

Rhino, floor and transom are rock solid and as it says in the ad, less power.
Loco, thx but too little too late. We are moving in 30 days and losing storage for 3 months while I build a new shop.
I think I'm done dropping price and think it's sold anyway.
Only selling it to fund another project and have already raised enough funds I may keep the Starliner, put it on moth balls long term, and wait on a donor V-8.
Thanks though!I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
