Fitting Mercury prop on a Chrysler 140

Guy, is there a way to fit a mercury prop on a Chrysler? the shaft seems right, but the Chrysler has a wall coming off the bearing case that keeps the prop from seating down. is that wall for strength? can it be removed.

That wall is an anode. Remove screws and use correct trust washer. Blade tip/edge might hit ex snout, use snout from 50-60hp and drill reliefs above cav plate to allow increased ex, small snout plugs things up. Most 4cyl are 1.73, triples are 2.0. Two shaft lengths , last year turn over to Force and beyond used shorter shaft.

Can you just run with out the snout? do you need to change jetting? how high can you run the motor and still get good cooling? is a nose cone helpful? this is a 1984 140HP. the last year for the Chrysler.

Just keep the water inlets below and it should be okay. Cone might help a couple mph on a light hull. Jetting depends alot on psi, total timing settings, reeds and cages, ports worked 6000+ rpm . If you block off the opening and work the ex up top I think that's better than no snout. The CHRYSLER racing thread has an example of this lower done above the plate. The water coming off the prop could be forced up into the cav area without the snout.

Factory psi us 155-165, anything below is hurting hp. Can be cut to 175 and run well on light hull with pump gas. Timing at 34.5-35.5 at wot with good pump gas. Jets at .098 -110 depends on rpm , hull weight , weather etc. I use 098 mostly and run 6100. 110 are too fat up top for my weight and loose rpm in the hot weather. 104 seem safe , but with good fuel and 40:1 98 work fine with Wiseco.

for now, I'm all stock, still have no hull, looked at a 15 foot baja and a 16 checkmate. found a sweet 14 checkmate but life has gotten in the way for now. So I'm working on the motors. I see the point of getting into trouble running without the snout. what you ever played with the side exhaust from the 150 race motor? and what are you calling good fuel?

Good fuel is Shell 91 no alc min to 94 Sunoco with alc. Block needs machining to accept stacks. Will make more power but too loud for a fun day every day. I posted a link for a little check mate , white with red flame for sale, might still be around. 13' playmate checkmate Minnesota, just saw the ad again.

so how loud is it with the drilled snout? I like my pro max, the leg is factory drilled, but it pointed down. so there isn't much of a difference. The old 150's are just crazy loud. My dad talked about them vibrating the dyno walls, I've never seen one in person

Don't know about drilling the snout. Above the cav plate, drilled both sides to get more area than originally with the stock snout when using small snout or blocked off. Best is as shown in other thread, boxed out the back above the plate.
