The good news is that there is a ton of 300XS stuff out there. The motors will have had a 13 or 14 year production cycle when they stop, then they will most likely build power heads for a few years beyond that.

There has been a major change at Mercury Marine/Racing within the last 2-3 years...ownership! Brunswick no longer owns them so I guess Brunswick will be concentrating on bowling pins and pool tables is now and getting out of the water.

Along with the change in ownership comes several other changes...like vision, mission, direction, product lines, etc, etc, etc. It appears they don't care about us anymore unless you got deep pockets. Otherwise they will go for market share in the 60 mph boat market...commercialized. We all have seen the last of Mercury as we have always known it. RIP Mercury...

This is starting to sound like the start of a horror movie....a world void of 2 strokes and performance props.

Brunswick sold in 2014...right about the time when we all started noticing all the changes listed in the this thread.

This is the position that you find yourself in when you have to answer to board members and shareholders. Everyone concentrates on growing the bottom line. They are very heavily vested in the pleasure marine market owning all of these companies.

and it wasn't very long ago that they owned Hatteras and Cabo yachts as well.

They completely lost me when the most popular part of their engine line was moved to China...and everything else is tohatsu. And when the 115 etec came around.........and when a 500 propeller suddenly cost 1,000....and still flung blades.

They (Mercury) is still the best option for us and we need to be thankful for what they provided in the past. I have more memories of being pushed by black then most could ever get in an entire lifetime. The down side is that small performance boating will not have "new" power options in the near future.

Agreed...they were a big part of what we are or wanted to be. Not to mention all the friendships and good times they helped to put together. Best times I can remember were in black as well.

I have already jumped ship (no pun intended) but it was definitely the sad end of an era for me...

Like the nfl big companys get to big. Lose track of where they came from. I work with a small shop that was Merc for 25+ years. Merc under sold him to mass sellers. He lost .....they lost a small shop. They didn't care. Now mostly other brands in this area.......who wooda thought.

    Since January 1 2017 to present :
How many members on this board have bought a "brand new" Mercury cleaver or pair of cleaver's for their personal use ???

Who had plan's to do the same in 2018 ????

Who here would invest everything they have in "beepers" or the "pet rock" for 2018 ?

Buyers drive the market . You can't blame anyone for not wanting to build , what people buy very little of ..

There will always be people in the aftermarket willing to pick up the scraps and run with it ...
