What is Mercury Marine Thinking?
I had a conversation with a reliable source and he informed me that as of the end of this year Mercury Marine will no longer manufacture cleaver and chopper props, I understand with the advent of the production of all these behemoth outboards from not only Mercury but across the board, the demand from the OEM;s has diminished to a trickle, but the issue is there are thousands of motors that require cleavers and choppers, yes I am aware there are a few companies that manufacture substitutes, but for me Mercury was always the go-to company for my applications, the economics of owning a new outboard requires an absorbent of money, we all see how the prices of clean used motors have risen to the point where in some cases it makes sense to buy new. I hope that one of these aftermarket companies will step up into the marketplace and produce these props with the quality and precision that Mercury has afforded us over the years, little by little we all have seen the transformation of this passion we all love become a sport for the very wealthy,

Mercury Marine, or Mercury Racing? Cause not much racing going on with Mercury Racing anymore. The New racing outboard is $50,000, and the offshore superstock guys have resorted to building there own hybrid. Mercury could, and should have built A 300xs with 15" mid 10 years ago. The 200xs was almost impossible to buy. Mercury Lux not racing

Sorry boys.....wether it's true or not, it is going to eventually happen. Mercury is big business - they only look at big money nowadays - we are a small drop in a very large bucket.
We are pretty much on our own......sucks

Yes, it is true. I just talked with one of my guys up there and all the 2 stroke stuff is getting ready to take a big whack. The 300XS is still available, but the props, including the cleavers will be discontinued.
I know you guys hate to hear this, but we are to blame a little bit for some of this. Hell, I ran all the old stuff until this past year, so with a lot of us not buying new, they have sat down and decided to cut a lot of it. Now with that said, I believe some of the prices from Mercury on these new motors are threw the roof, so I understand why some of us did not buy them. It is going to be a 4 stroke world very soon.
Also, why sell one 2 stroke motor to a guy who will keep it for 10-15 years, when you can sell 2-5 four strokes to a fisherman who will replace them ever couple of years. Business 101, as much as we hate it. Hopefully there is some light at the end of the tunnel out there with a company like CRT or someone who will still build some Hot Rod 2 Strokes. If I was not into the building of the boats as deep as I am, I would consider pursuing that. Thanks, Todd

I have a brand new Mercury Lab Cleaver that I have never had a chance to use.
It might turn into a good investment after all...Markus' Performance Boating Links:
