    Dry Stacking Questions

When setting up for dry stacking is the goal to stop all water from entering the exhaust tuner?
I get drilling the two holes and aiming the "nozzles" down at the water pump so the exhaust doesn't cook it.
I also get drilling two tiny holes to spray the sides of the mid section to help keep that faded burnt look away.
I get all of that. I also get drilling the exit holes in the sides to let the pressurized water out which can be adjusted
    for more or less pressure.
But what is stopping the factory water flow from entering the exhaust tuner after these mods or am I missing something.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

from what ive seen they use epoxy to block off the holes where it goes into the tuner from the adaptor.
I might be wrong on this so dont rely on my assumption.

im sure you will get plenty on here to put you on the right track.

maybe i'll just have to use a wood dowel for now and plug it the old fashioned way.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

I am not sure the benefit of dry stacking, what gains does it give compared to normal ?

I have a drystacked V4 and will try to address some of your questions....
The mota builder made a half-round metal plate to segregate the exhaust from the pump. He ran these motas on a one mile roundy course for TEN laps with no pump issues!
Paint the mid and LU with high temp paint. Better yet have East Coast Powder Coating put his trick SS coating on the LU (speed gain also!)
From what I understand dumping water into the tuner-LU interupts the exhaust tuning.
They sound a LOT better... Like free-flow exhaust on a car/truck IMO!

I would say dry stacking in a all out race application is absolutely a +. But on a pleasure/fast boat a minus. Been there done that. Here in California the ECO nazi's are always looking for a reason to stop all others from having fun. I have an OMC with 16" mid dry stacked(2 1/8" streams of water) LOUD! have to have ear plugs to run even though I'm partly deaf. Also a stock center section without the can but with a Super Trap on the back.
The of people that have said anything about the boats only one complained.

I've been reading what can and trying to find pictures, I bought a boat that is dry stacked and don't really understand the process yet.

If it is a one piece adapter you just drill and tap all the dump holes in to the mid chamber. Then drill two 3/8 pipe taped hole in the side to dump the water. drill one small hole into the mid chamber and aim it at the water pump. some tap this hole and run a tube to the top of the water pump also.
Removing the water from the mid will raise the air temp in the mid chamber. This will make the tuner think it is shorter and raise the rpm power band.
Dave Marles has the whole procedure for this on his US1 web sight. There is more to it in the explanation that should be done to the block also. Read the whole thing a few time and it will all be clear as day.
