. Buy a 260. U will be money ahead in the long run. Carbs want ever be crisp. Like efi. Without jetting everytime out. I’ve been there done the start with fish motor thing. U can make a fishing motor run but u end up with same money in by the time your done. Not being negative so please don’t take it that way. I’ve just been down this rd before.

a 260 doesn't have a long life expectancy, at least thats what i heard. 100 hours or so? i just want to run it once i build it.. if that means keeping stock ports and running a little compression and keeping revs down i will just have to do it.. i ran 88 with a 2.0 with a horizontal front half, and Ive been told it likely only made 170 horses like that, or maybe a little more.. should be a big improvement going to this mild ported 2.5 bored out right? I had a 2:1 case on the little motor.. looking to go to a 1.87 with the same pitch prop.. and a motor that shoudl spin more than the old mota.. hope that gets me there

Have it ported to 225 pm specs and chest work, keep the revs to 75-7700.

I agree with the Capt. But you need to also work the front half to use a 7 peddle (or sport jet) intake.

I believe the front half I have is a 7 petal, I have a complete 175 2.5 powerhead for parts. I dont know what is in there yet for parts.. Do you have any idea what it would have inside? I believe its a CC block

The only production 2.5L with 7 peddle reeds were 1991 200 XRI models..If I remember right (which isnt often). 175s do not have 7 peddle reed blocks.

The 175 has what? 5 larger petals? or 4 larger petals?

The cages of the four and five petals that would be in the 175 are much narrower than the 7 or sport jets. Also the opening in the front half where cages sit is also much narrower. The 4 petal actually makes pretty good power up to 8k with better power/ torque below 5k. Works well on heavier boats. On your lighter boat would be better off with a 7 petal setup to take advantage of the better power from 5k up. If you stick with the 4/5 petal setup, I would go with 4 being they have larger openings than the 5 and flow better.

240 sport jets have the big front half. That is where the rubber 5 petal reeds came from. You can still buy a new 240 sport jet block also.
Steel sleeve and all the right cuts in the chest and slots right from the get go like the 225 had.
Think if you look around you can get one under $3000 bare block and front half.

Anything in that price range is no good for me right now.. I won't spend that on this project. Maybe later in life

I hoarded a bunch of pm blocks. Your money ahead by far buying a new block.
