    Yeah but if you cut .016 in half it's .008. Max 'allowed' piston clearance according to OMC is .0075.

    Actually I was being serious. All has to do with bores and diameters I reckon. Think .004 is tight as they recommend for a oversize piston?

    ....and you can't measure clearances with a feeler gauge, besides ring gap.

    Once the ports are brought to 140 specs you need to be right on with piston clearence and ring gap......as they grab rings when sloppy....been there!

    Pistons are shaped with a taper with top being much smaller than bottom. So it will show much more clearance at top than bottom in skirt area. Just wanted to clarify my post so my short answer didn't appear to be critical or sound like a jerk. After I read it, saw it could have been taken the wrong way. So measuring at top of piston doesn't really tell ya much, piston would need to be removed and measured near bottom to get an accurate clearance reading.

    Good point, note the extra top clearance is to soak the heat. Measure forged vs cast and note the difference. Marks in the bore will be gone when you bore it.

    Poor mans way. Put piston in bore crown first and check top of bore to bottom of piston with feeler gage.
