97 Mariner 200HP MAG EFI boggs down on acceleration
I picked up a 1997 Mariner 200 HP Magnum EFI last spring. It ran when I bought it. I went to the trouble of reinstalling the oil injection system to make the motor as original. Now, not getting into the reason why I would do that, I have not yet diagnosed why the motor bogs down upon acceleration. I checked everything I can think of. New switch boxes, new stator (looked like it got too hot), flywheel looks OK, new trigger. Checked the fuel lines. Checked the fuel (fresh premium gas in the tank),fuel pressure good at the schrader valve. Even the local marine mechanic is having trouble isolating the problem. I keep thinking it's an electrical problem. Anybody out there have any ideas where to look next? It's time to get out fishing! I should also add that I sent the fuel injectors out and had them tested and cleaned. Made no difference.

Try a known good fuel line and primer ball run from a 5 gal remote fuel tank.

Did you check the throttle position sensor? http://www.screamandfly.com/showthre...-EFI-TPS-issue

'97 Mariner bogging down
We may have isolated the problem. I hope to find out this week when it gets put back together. I'll let you know! OK. Here is what we found after a very thorough search of the electrical system without finding anything wrong . While going through the fuel system route inside the VST canister, there is a very small filter screen incorporated into the fuel pressure regulator. This screen was covered with some kind of deposit that cut off most of the fuel flow to the fuel rail. After cleaning this screen the motor ran good. Tough to find this screen, if you don't know it's there. Hope this helps someone else. Thanks for all of your input, Scream and Fly guys!
