V-200 200hp 1986 2.4L - Freshing up kit and questions
Hello SF Guys,
I wanted to know of a good source for a refreshing up kit for this motor. All new bearings, seals, rings? Also would you advise new pistons? If so what is the benefit.... I also have a question about Bridgeport 2.4L heads. What if any improvement would I get from single piece heads? Good source for new reeds? Motor runs fine now, starts easy, runs great on the top end, but idol is rough and it loads up when I idol too long (premix motor) I assume new reeds will help a lot to fix this issue. after a rebuild, i will be pulling it off the current clamshell mid and putting it on a 2.0l 96 150hp mid section because the current steering pin is (yoke's) are shot and it is sloppy! Any advise is appreciated!

Pro-Marine is a good source for engine parts. Chris Carson (CCMS) for the reeds. Need to check piston-bore clearance and check cylinder roundness and squarness from top to bottom 1st, may find will need to bore anyway requiring new pistons. If doesn't need to be bored and motor hadnt been ran hot prob could reuse pistons. The danger of reusing, especially if it had been ran hot is ring locator pins may come loose and cause major cylinder damage. But shy of top pinning them it's a chance no matter what even with new ones. Jmo

Like Forbes said , chrome motors that were run hot tend to have out of round cylinders.
What carbs you running ? Usually you can lean the idle circuit of the wh carbs to fix that problem, increase idle air.
Check the exhaust opening in the adapter plate to make sure its the same size. Smaller will hurt performance. You can shave heads for increased compression. MikeCheaters never Win !!!

1868 part number for standard rings on chrome bore motor. 2100p is std piston kit port side, 2100s is starboard kit, both pro pistons. The pro v part numbers are 2100pv and 2100 sv. All part numbers are from pro marine and their pistons. I prefer the pro v piston, but both are very good products.

My '86 was chrome so I assumed that one is too. Chrome was what they used before nikasil. I like them. Chrome and steel sleeves use different rings. Mike.

Us chrome is pretty much your only option I beleive but it’s irrelevant as most people are conferenced. For a standard 2.4 200 that needs multiple cylinders fixed it’s not cost prohibitive. Some people will put a steel sleeve in one hole to fix one but most people these days would just throw away a 2.4 200 with cylinder problems and throw a 2.5 drop on in instead.
Better motor easier fixability more power etc etc etc.
most people i know wouldn’t even consider a Bridgeport worth fixing much less a 2.4 200.
Unless you just love 2.4’s most would just get a 2.5. They can be found very reasonable and there is more “fixability “ in the future, you can bore bad cylinders etc
