I know the plugs are more expensive for that motor but I wouldn't put any other plug in an hpdi than what it calls for. The combustion event in those motors is much more precise than a non direct injected motor and the fuel is going in at much higher pressures. Probably the reason why the dual electrode is required so the high pressure injection doesn't put the fire out (foul the plug). That's a formula that I would not tamper with just to save a few dollars. Could cost you much more if it don't work out. At the very least it would probably run poorly at higher rpms if not at all rpms. Ox66 plugs are just a buck and some change but that high tech hpdi likes the good stuff.

Why? There not crazy expensive and they work great in those motors....you should easily be getting 100 hours out of them....What Bullet says above is the reason why...the extreme pressure blast of fuel can blow out the spark on a standard plug....

never stated the reason for my question was cost.

Had a conversation with a retired tech last year about long idle times foul the duel electrode plugs,he stated there was a alternate but couldnt remember the p#. thanks for the responses, the plugs have already been replaced with new ones. I doubted there was anything to it

If your having carbon issues with long idles on your HPDI try switching to Pennzoil Semi Synthetic or XLF. That completely resolved the problem for some I know who were running Yamalube.

Yamaha their self said to switch to Merc oil for these problems so they know there is an issue. I'm with Demeanor on switching to Pennzoil as it works even better than Merc oil on this specific problem.

I just started seeing Pennzoil semi-synthetics on the shelves here locally but before that I got 3 gallons at a time sold in a package deal off ebay for $60...no tax and delivery to my door at that price too...fwiw.

I would rather try another plain old mineral TC-W3. Or a fancy synthetic TC-W3 if you want to spend the money.

I have just now sent an email to an oil distributor about some fully synthetic tcw3 oil.
I have asked for a spec sheet of the additives, I am not expecting much of a reply to be honest as it seems most company's do not like to give out this info ?

price wise it seems to be a bargain at about 1/2 the price of say yamalube or merc premium plus etc.

I will also be asking another company's about their brand of oil too, again not holding out much lick for responses ha ha .
