Merc 1998 200hp reads replaced where are chipped peices?

Installed new CCMS reeds. But one reed had 1/4 missing. Three others had a very little chip missing. Where could the chips be? Removing head and blowing air is the only thoughs I have. Help!

Thanks for the reply. Guess I have to do more than pull the heads. You want me to open the block? Right?

If it was trapped between the piston and cylinder wall youd know it by now.

Small parts usually blow through with little or no damage, sometimes a little peppering on the piston\head,you can clean that up by removing the head, after you find it with a probe light.A bigger piece caught between the piston and cylinder wall usually results in noticable compression loss...Chris

Thanks Chris. I put a plastic drum under the lower unit and filled with water and vinegar 3:1. Ran motor to flush my new/used salt water fishing motor. Found shinny chrome looking specs or peppering in bottom of the plastice drum. Just a small amount. Looks like gold dust but chrome lookiing. Will re-check compression. Thanks again!
