What are symptons of a broken cranck sealing ring?

What are the symptons of a broken crank sealing ring? I might have broken one assembling a 2.5. 1998 175 carb. It is acting up- throttles up to 1500- running rough- then will not go higher- dies when I push it EXCEPT if I hit enricher- it stumbles worse- but right after doing that I can get it over the 1500 rpm hump and it will wind up into 4000s or better- tests were done strapped on trailer with motor in the water so 4000 was about as far as I wanted to take- once over 1500 - runs smoother too.
Checked spark at 1500 - good - and each cylinder dropped out when plug wire pulled- compression in 120s - correct carbs - timing checked and set-
I am rechecking on lines and idle hoses-

Not much. The symptom is the next time you pull the crank out the two pieces will fall on the floor.

Well, that's what I came across? I don't think I could say no problems? Wasn't the worst but idle low speed was crap.

Had a Merc rep ( friend ) give me similar "thoughts" back in the late 80's. I never tried it though. I was always a by the book kinda guy...back then anyway.

Leaving sealing rings out is fine in certain locations such as above center main bearings. I have done that on hot rod stuff for years. Reduces parasitic drag and allows better oiling of center mains yet sill seals cylinders from each other because of ring on other side of bearing. Your symptoms do sound an awful lot like those of an old inline with labyrinth seal issues. A broken ring would be a similar situation. I would also be concerned that without any tension the rings could be moving and possibly eating away the aluminum. Might be time to take that one apart again. JMO

thanks Gents- I changed out stator and trigger last evening- going to go over fuel pump right now- failed to note here this is second set of carbs doing same thing- so I rule out carbs-

I tried pumping bulb while at near bog - 1500 rpms - no effect at all and bulb was full- unless stator/triger swap fixes it- me think I have a vacuum leak somewhere-

One odd thing I found when I tore it down- red RTV on exhaust divider gasket-

My crank seal rings are shot ( Engine rebuild this winter ) Johnson V4 85hp
The mix on my motor should to be 50/1 pre-mix if i run this mix she will idle but not take any power at all. She wont get on plane and runs at tick over but noting else. Now if i run 25/1 she is like a new motor full RPM jumps out the hole no problem at all.
I asked a OMC tech old school guy. He said she needs the extra oil to compensate for the leaking seals. Using this thicker mix is the ONLY way to make my motor run. I put 50/1 in her by mistake a couple of weeks ago and she would not run. I even asked here about why she wouldn't get on plane. I forgot my buddy was running 50/1 when i got some fuel from him.
Just how my motor runs may help you till you get yours stripped down.

Trigger and stator did not help- But changing power packs and coil set did. Little hesitation when throttle is advanced then much power- pushed deck boat within 2 mph of fastest it has ever been- that was the good news
When I got home I ran compression check 5 @120-130 with the 1 new piston at 105 - bored 20 over - WSM - maybe 2-3 hours run time - ok so maybe it come up when broken all the way-
Then I did leak down -OMG- new piston was at 80% leak down- others in the 20s- Yikes- only a couple hours run time but I have never seen numbers that bad right after putting on back together- odd thing was how strong it ran- nearly matching a 200 2.5 I had on boat a while back-
