200xri hp upgrade questions
Hey guys so im running an eagle one 182 cyclone with a 150hp mariner Super mag/Pro max 150hp on it right now. Im seeing mid 80's on most passes and have seen 88/89 mph a couple times. Id like to see 100mph or better out of it
A buddy of ours has a blown 200hp xri that he would sell us. I would be looking at porting it to 225hp pro max or 260 specs if i built it up. What needs to be addressed when doing a build like that other then the porting? Id like the rev limiter to be up around 7000rpm or higher as thats about where id be turning it up to.
My thoughts on doing the build would be a brucato acu, new reeds, possibly ditch the vst system, bump compression up to about 140lbs or so, porting to 225pm or 260 specs depending and thats about where my ideas run out for a lake motor. I would like to keep it running pump super and keep it pretty bulletproof. Which way would you guys go? Build my 150 promax, build the 200xri or try find a 225pm?Last edited by checkmate45; 09-20-2017 at 09:57 AM.

I have always liked the 200 xri. The more simple you keep it the more bulletproof it will be. Start off with a set of CCM reeds and cut the heads then see where you are at. May be surprised and not need the porting changes. If you decide to do the porting may as well get in to the exhaust chest too.

To actually make it like the 225 you will need to pull all the sleeves to do the rod slot feed behind the liner, you will need the cut the chest and open the front half to 7 peddle. Your usually just better of buying the 225 to begin with unless you are going to do the machine work your self.

If its an FF block 1996-1999its the same, XRI motors 1995 an older are not the same. And they all need the discharge opened.

I spent a lot of money on an xri years ago to only sell it to get a hopped up pro max. The 5 petal front will only flow so much and as stated there is a bunch of work on the exhaust and behind the sleeves needed.
For what I was wanting to achieve my money would have been better spent on a performance motor sooner. I would at least go the pro max 225 route. Good luck. MikeLast edited by tunnelmike; 09-29-2017 at 09:28 PM.

Sounds like i may be better off looking for a bigger promax to replace the 150hp. I think i may still get the 200xri powerhead as all the fuel injection parts would be the same as my 150hp promax. If i do that ill probably build it on the cheap, do a few minor tweaks and call it good until i find a 225hp or 260hp.
On a side note. I just locked up my coned 200 case today so i guess my spare CLE will go on to get me by for the rest of the season. Whats it usually cost to build a case with new bearings and 1.87 gears? The way it locked up makes me think the bearings and gears are pooched. I can lift the shift shaft up a down a half an inch, i havent taken anything apart yet

Would it be possible to use the 150 pro max ecu on the 200 xri to get the higher limiter? Would it flow enough fuel at high rpm? It would basically be a 200 promax (if the 200 promax is basically an xri with a higher limiter and glass reeds) running a 150 promax ecu, id also use the injectors from the 150hp if possible as they are known good injectors vs the ones in the xri
