Understanding how the drive operates and the use of a brake peddle to stop the prop and control the speed of rotation on the prop in both forward and reverse, I dont think maneuverability at idle will be a problem.
The problem is the 28 gallon per hour it burns at idle.
That quote "Speed Kills, Acceleration Thrills" will pe painted somewhere on this boat. LOLLast edited by John Hice; 01-21-2018 at 04:01 PM.

been watching this project from the beginning and my first thought was how were you going to get an Arneson to bite on a true tunnel with no center pod, well guess you showed me that, providing it is low enough to get horizontal with the bottom of the sponsons. next was blown away by the thought of clear powder coat on a polished surface, do you have to prep after polish to get it to stick? thirdly was also thinking of manurvering at idle speeds, Bernie Little had an Elimonator with a turbine back in the 80's and I seem to remember some electric trolling motor type of deals on trim tabs that he could lift up clear when running. Great effort, can't wait to see it! Fun Out

The center pod is 2.75" shallower than the deepest edge of the outside hulls which should give the prop real good clean water above 85 mph. I videoed the boat from behind with the old setup and at 80 mph the center pod was just touching the water.
This particular drive is one of only 3 built and it is 5" longer than the standard Arneson and has a square tail shaft end. They were custom built units by Mark Wilson from whom I purchased it from.
As far as handling at idle, Ill quote from a post from an earlier discussion.
"Understanding how the drive operates and the use of a brake peddle to stop the prop and control the speed of rotation on the prop in both forward and reverse, I don't think maneuverability at idle will be a problem.

I wish Linco still made the tabs with the trolling motors on them. That would make it nice when your leaving a crowded swimming area or dockside restaurant.
I don't mind the smell of burnt jet fuel but some who may still be eating really wouldn't care for the after taste. LOL

Final fit of the fuel tanks before they are taken back out and get polished.
All of the Fuel, Oil and Hydraulic lines are run under the deck secured to a removable platform spaced about an inch off of the bottom of the boat.
The lines are 316 stainless with JIC fittings on each end. No lines flopping around in the bilge. All of the oil reservoirs fuel lift pump and filters will be mounted in the forward compartment.Last edited by John Hice; 01-23-2018 at 09:35 PM.

John,
Is there a safty jacket available like what gets used around bell housings or something similar for the turbine or do those housings never implode?

Now that's a question for LT to answer.

Yes, There is a scatter blanket that goes around the turbine wheel area to catch the hot titanium shrapnel in the event of a catastrophic failure.
The scatter blanket is one of my prize possessions from Gary and the Geico Team. It is one off of their turbine boat with the Geico Gecko embroidered on it.
The skin of the fuel tank facing the turbine is also made of 1/4" aluminum plate as a last resort to stop anything that may go through the blanket.

Yep, I was very reluctant to have the fuel tanks that far back in that area of the turbine but the people who have lived it know better when it comes to the effectiveness of the blankets.
However, in the event of a turbine explosion there will be fire from residual fuel pumping through the lines. For that reason I will be installing the enforcer fire suppression system in the boat. Their product not only extinguishes the fire it also prevents it from reigniting.
