fresh "build" on 175 2.5 - used 200 carbs - NO GO- and what is that d-mn beeping
1998 2.5 175 merc carb conversion from EFI- 1 new piston/bored 20+ others honed- 45 minute run time on hose and attempted lake run test-
compression 125 psi on old 5 - 120 psi on new piston- new rings can not be set yet- spark good when idling-
I used a set of WMV 18s (200 hp) stock jets - idle ok- at lake when attempting to throttle advanced - bogs out - can not seem to handle the fuel load-
Checked timing- was set at 18^ supposed to be 20^ - TDC set & .462 checked
Book says carbs should be WMV 4/4A for '98 newer ones have WMV 17
Are the 200 carbs just too much fuel?
and what is that damn beeping ? Getting a rapid beep from control box. Oiler removed, idle stabilizer removed, what I would normally call control module is listed as "Lubalert" on this model in book. I have several "control modules" if I should change it. I am sure something I did not hook up or should have hooked up is causing beep-
Converted from EFI to carbs-

What size main jets? Mains that are too large will cause that kind of problem.
The jet size is more important than the kind of carb. A rejet is cheaper than a set of carbs.

Have you tried hitting the choke when it bogs to make sure it is not to lean, I know you think it's to rich but anything can cause a lean condition. I don't think a little rich would cause a bog unless the plugs are wet fouled. Did you try a quick rev in neutral then take off?

I did not try enricher- it will pull up to 1500/2000 ish under load - then bogs and dies-
I did try open throttle by hand at cam (no timing advance) - same effect but at much lower RPMs
Would low timing combined with too rich do it? Timing was at 18^ - suspose to be 20^

Carbs are all different when it comes to jet sizes. I'm running 70s in a 91 14 petal200 that came with 66s from the previous owner in these wmv carbs that came factory on this motor. I raised the size for 34cc heads. Tried what turned out to be74s drilled out to 80 ish and that's what my Mirage did. When I would let off it would pick up rpm. If I eased into the throttle it was better but still off.
When I was drag racing a stock 2.4 with wh22s I ran 88 and 90 mains. I don't know why they are so different from the WMH carbs on main sizes but I'm slightly rich now at 70s
Try the enrichment trick , rich and lean act similar. MikeCheaters never Win !!!

Hook, check the high output of the stator....that rpm range is where it comes in. Also take the lube alert module to the trash, no need for it if premixing.
