It also depends on how much your customer paid for the engines.

If he paid a full price, I suggest you weld up the block. That is the appropriate repair, and you should have a happy customer. That is worth something.

I have no idea ... probably the same as your though .
It's my job to generate chips , I have an old black man who comes here twice a month that takes the steel and I think the Mrs splits 60/40 on aluminum with him ... As long as the barrels get emptied ... I'm ecstatic ..

As far as that 2.5 block goes ... just needs a lil fillin an a millin ...

The ad clearly stated the issue. If the customer was on his game, he would have asked you to pull the head and verify the reason before buying the motor. That's HIS fault for not knowing why that cyl was low. It's on HIM to fix it.

As the seller, I think you're in the right and if I were in your shoes, I would NOT offer to get back into bed with this customer and "fix" anything. As others have said, as soon as you do that, you'll be married to this guy for life, and clearly he isn't going to play nice.

Dont sweat the small ****.. Its amazing that in boating its the only thing ever where you can sell someone something used thats mechanical, and 20 years old and 3-4 years after they bought it **** goes wrong and they want some kind of refund or to trash you on internet forums.. Like absolutely amazing..

I have bought some good stuff, some not so good stuff in boats, motorcycles, cars, etc etc.. Sometimes you make out sometimes you dont, but I have never pissed and moaned about any of it..

I would offer cash, no fixing or you will never hear the end of it

That implies a transfer of the risk from the seller to the buyer.

This is a 300 block and has a crack in the cylinder and that cylinder was low on compression. The heads were not pulled to know whether it was piston, rings or I would not have guessed it would have been a crack in the cylinder. It was sold as is.... If it was me and yes I have done a lot of them. I would pull the sleeve, weld it, put a new sleeve back in and run it. I have offered to repair (not replace the block) it at my own cost and that is all I can do.

    What would you do?

This is why I don't sell much used stuff any more and have thrown away a lot of good stuff to avoid these situations.

    Thank you,

From a newbie to a pro. If you happen to have any blocks you're looking to throw away I'd take one. I gotta start somewhere lol!
