what changed in the by-pass covers on V4s between 1979-80?

As the title says what changed if anything ???
I want to fit 1972 by pass covers to my 1980 V4 block but right up till '79 the part numbers were all the same but in 1980 they changed for some reason ?
Was this due the size ?
I was led to believe that the older covers were better at increasing crank case volume did they do away with this in 1980?
Can i still use them on my engine or have they changed in such away as they will not fit anymore ?

I think the change was just for acessories, power packs, solenoid ect. In 82 my V4 by pass covers have fittings for primer system. I think pre 79 they used choke flappers in the carbs then 83-84 sometime the primer went to the top of carbs. I would think that would be the only difference.

Later ones have ports on the covers, like bleeders or something for the EPA. All those intake bleed valves (30 bucks a piece!) on the intake/reeds and the ports added to the deflector/bypass covers just try to suck in as much dripping gas and oil as possible to keep the lakes clean! Back in the 70's none of the motors had these. Just the ports going to the fuel pups from the crankcase. Some others may have more info but thats what I have seen from old 70's VS mid to late 80's covers.

Seen a motor with the enrichment gas lines hooked to those covers to prime for start. Thing starts like nothing every time cold, even in gear on the trailer fires right up right away. Mr Ken!

Is that the same as the choke primer going into the carbs?

Nope both primer lines tee into two one on each side of motor into each cover so all four covers and or cylinders get prime right it to the ports, starts right up like its fuel injected but easy to flood if your not used to it.Buy the way not all the covers have the fittings so either drill and press a fitting in or just get other covers from another motor that has them so all four have the fittings.

Forgot that the intake fittings get capped off so now no bleed system anymore but did not load up bad on the pre 1980s motors unless your a go green tree hugger hahaha.
