Setback and jack plate or no jack plate

Just got a new deck boat with a 300xs. Looking for some advice on the set up. This is my first outboard and I am slowly figuring it out. I currently have a 10inch set back with a atlas jack plate. Unless the jack plate is all the way down it gets alot of prop wash coming out of the hole. I was thinking about adding a 4 inches to the set back. Also I have been contemplating just ditch the jack plate and put and set paragon back bracket to lose some weight.

I guess you mean the prop is slipping by prop wash? Someone here may be able to help you if you provide more info....What prop are you using and what is your center of prop to bottom of pad distance when the plate is all the way down?

    Great looking boat....what is it?

    you said

for hole shot it is meant to be all the way down, then raise once its up .
if the prop was high to start with it WILL slip a lot and give tons of prop wash.

Interesting point though. Would loosing the weight of the setback gain any speed or would the speed be lost in the setback removal?

well the setback is there to change centre of gravity I.E move it back further.
This moving it back allows the front half of the boat to come up a bit more thus causing less wetted area.
This in turn allows for more speed due to less hull touching the water and boat riding on minimal amount of hull.

The weight of the setback is minimal... and I would say keeping it makes the boat faster not slower.

maybe on those particular boats its slower I dont know, but in general its the fast boats that have set backs.

I've been testing setbacks on my 19 Gambler.. 6" and 8"
What phillnjack says above agrees with what I found
with 8" it likes to fly, 6" it runs wet
