Fuel leaking between reed housing and the cylinder block after re ringing motor

I ran the motor(1980V-200) after having torn it down and re ringing and changing reeds. It was "frothing between the reed plate and the cylinder block on both sides. Nothing up top or bottom. It is and old style 5 pedal horizontal reed set-up. I took the reed plate off and changed the gasket and it made no difference. Problem still there. The front half had been machined -.050. There appears to be no interference with anything. It was torqued to spec with the reeds tighten up after. Could something else be causing this like a piston installed wrong?

Piston in backwards or not...Not... it is a mismatch between the 2 mating metal surfaces. If both front half and manifold mating surfaces are true and flat, it should not leak.

So if the block half is good, and it "should" be seeing as how it was just machined .050 off.

Must be in the reed plate (or manifold) surface.

Still should be no leaks. I use a light coat of vasoline on those gaskest just to hold em in place while I assemble it. Two flat surfaces with a gasket in between should not need sealing unless a shop manual dictates for whatever the purpose is. Also a bit of lite grease or similar helps keep the gasket in one piece when you do pull it apart. jmo

Grease is a good idea. Reed cages held this one in place. Would double gaskets help? I was surprised to see fuel leaking as I would have thought there would be an air leak(getting sucked in).

Take it apart and check both the intake (reed plate) and block with a straight edge. If that looks ok, dry fit the intake on the block with no gasket (reeds in place), bolte finger tight and use a feeler gauge (.0015) and see if it will slip in where you are seeing the froth... or anywhere else. Sounds like the reeds are bottoming out, intake is warped or the block wasn't machined right

The reed cage end( where mounting bolts go) were touching . Touched them up and that problem was solved.

When cutting the front the reeds can be too long. Also when cuting heads watch the pins on 2.5s
