Blarney Island Update and New Direction

Big news on the Blarney Island racing front. The club that has been putting on the races at Blarney Island the last few years - the Northern Illinois Drag Boat Association - is changing hands. Chris Alby is in the process of purchasing all of the shares and assets of the corporation. Changes in the running of the classes and races are already taking place as we had 6 new boats come to race (or return to race) last week. Chris is doing this in order to take local drag boat racing to a new level. As you know (and see in other posts), Blarney Island has gotten more attention for the politics and how the races were run rather than the fun and convenience of being able to race every week in a safe and fun environment for $25. That'll be the sole focus going forward.

So, what does that mean specifically? John Groth (outgoing President and owner of NIDBA) has made Chris the President of NIDBA and removed Bill Gohr as Vice-President. Chris will now create his own list of interim officers and new Rules Committee. This interim group will be announced shortly and will work to improve boat counts through the end of the racing season (last race is Thursday, September 14).

Here is what Blarney Island Racing is about....it's a place for you to bring your boat, run it competitively in a safe environment, on a weekly basis, for very little expense in front of hundreds of people. It's a glorified grudge match. It is NOT ODBA/APBA/DSRA in that boats are grouped together in the most effective manner possible to create fun and competition. It's not an exact science, but we've had a LOT of fun through the years.

If you are looking to have fun racing in the Southeastern Wisconsin/Northeastern Illinois area, come on out and race. Go do www.nidba.net for more information, class rules, etc.

Hey guys. The website is obviously under construction. Believe me, I know what that is all about getting OPBRA started.
Is there a place I can go to get your rule book/classes, etc.?

SOOOO, what was the result of said meeting.......? anything major to chew on or throw out there for debate?
like to share this info in front of god and everyone "HERE" so we all can have some input, if we want to be democratic about it or will we be going the "few decide for the many" route?
when is next meeting that we can attend and have some input, im sure it will be needed for a fair and equal assesment and overall good of the club, again, the old "few decide for the many," has always been a sore spot.
Excited to see how the club can grow, bring more boats, and keep the peace between factions.....been like the Hatfields and Mc Coys out there for to long. seems like the same old change of guard but no real change in transparency or democracy.
    my .02 cents.
    thanks JR.

The meeting went wonderful. The ORC and IRC will be taking the thoughts from the meeting and make the proposed changes. We are just trying to set up rules that can be enforced out at the island. My thought was there was almost no arguing, which I had never seen other rules meeting before lol. It seamed everybody was able to express their opinions in a very respectful manor. It really sounds like both inboard and outboard racers are excited for the 2018 season.
