Tried to get to one of my doctors, who's in Beaumont, Tx., and was turned around by La. state police. I-10 and Hwy. 90 are closed at Vinton, La. They aren't letting people into S.E. Tx.
I did see about 10 Florida Wildlife&Fish vehicles/boats heading to Tx.-----------------------

Get ready for the wave of out of state contractors and crooks flocking to the area. I-75 down here is loaded with trucks and trailers carrying building materials followed nose to tail by cars loaded with workers going north. I remember after Andrew and Katrina all the price gouging and crap going on...Stay on your toes guys. The buzzards are circling again.

Thanks 1Bad, not to bad here in Lake Charles. We got rain and some wind but we only caught the tail of the bad stuff. The next day when it moved towards us was more rain and wind. but. IMO. not bad; but I'm on fairly high ground. Haven't heard of any bad flooding in the city. The typical areas that flood, along the rivers, coastline are the ones that got hit with the water over here.
Here in S.W. La. this is nothing compared to what Rita did to us, we got lucky this time. I stayed through Rita, I was use to hurricane winds working offshore. I also helped another neighbor keep a lookout on housed in our neighborhood. Plus checked on my family members houses. took pics for them. and let them know the outcome. They had all evacuated.
The night of Rita I heard a tornado, forgot about those being in hurricanes, take the roof off my next door neighbors shed. That kinda scared me. I had never heard a tornado IRL before. It really does sound like a train coming. I still opened my backdoor to try and see it even though it was pitch dark. I'm stupid like that sometimes.
Y'all try and keep dry and prayers to those in need. One thing that helps, IMO, is listening to Walton & Johnson on the radio, or internet. http://www.waltonandjohnson.com/listen_live.htmlLast edited by CDave; 08-31-2017 at 09:48 PM.

well...the waters almost gone.....its been a crazy week and a half.....we sat here and watched that storm tear up and flood 250+ miles of Texas. sum bitch wouldnt go away.....im at 36ft sea level and watched the water come up to my house and then recede 5 times....first 4 from rain ....last one cause bayous and rivers had filled up which turned my neighborhood and many others into reservoirs. places that would never flood are 5-10ft under water.....millions of people lost everything.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE TO THE EXTENT OF WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE......people from all over ....especially Louisiana .....are flocking by the thousands to aid in rescues.....going in neighborhoods with duck boats, flats boats, bass boats, mud trucks ...you name it. leaving their own flooded homes to help others. you dont hear any whining.....you dont see people blaming......you dont see people waiting......work has already commenced on rebuilding this place
thanks to all my friends....boat friends i have met through sites such as S&F .....for checking on all of us .......ive had many say they'd drop everything and come get me out a bind if i needed it.and i know yall would!
this is the first storm ive seen helicopters flying performing rescues like a damn war zone....anything to do with the president maybe???81' HYDROSTREAM VECTOR / slightly Modified 200

Glad your OK TXVector. Yes, it is a marvelous thing people are capable of when life threatening situations present. We help each other, and the world.
Looks like another bad one headed for somewhere in the USA. I am praying it just stays away and misses all land masses.James H. W2F a V-King... Want 2 Fly a V-King

Finally made it to Texas yesterday to get my medicine. There is still flooded areas along the Sabine river, which separates La/Tx. Didn't have to drive to Beaumont, only had to go to Vidor to get my medicine, about 15min. one way closer. Vidor didn't have power so the only businesses that were open were on generator power. Saw a lot of carpet, furniture, drywall along the way piled in peoples yards. Saw a few streets still under 5-6 ft. of water along the river and bayou's.
The water near the Sabine was only about 1 foot below I-10. So it's only been opened for travel for a day or two. Also saw a truck hauling a 911 like this one below. Not sure if it was an original or a copy but it was nice. Tried to take a pic with my phone but all I got was a close up of my thumb.
