Ask Bernie on this board. This era of Mercury's was his specialty at Mercury. But if I recall, Mercury sent out a Service Bulletin regarding the ECU, which made the engine run too lean in its midrange. Your ECU may have already been warrantied back when. Maybe not. Pick Bernards brain on it, and/or your local favorite Merc dealers brain.

Would think they would be the same as the Pro Max, somewhere around 240hp. If your running 7000rpm or more 40:1.

Thanks Fujimo and Dave, I was wondering about the ECU. Heard of some lean out at certain rpm's. (4000-5000?)Now I know what to look out for. Will run the ser # and see it's history. 240 hp sounds real good. 40 to 1 is what I was thinking. The old stream will like it, and it looks soooo good to me too.

Always thought SuperMagnum and Promax were identical, save for the paint and decals.

    You re-powering the V-King?

Bud of mine has had this super mag for some time and hasn't had the time to do anything with it. Planning to freshen it up inside, and make it look pretty. I am wanting to go a little faster with the V-King and still be fairly reliable. The promax/super mag should be a good remedy for this. I am running in the 80's now with a 200, so this super mag should push me into the 90 range possibly. I really like the way it looks. Gonna have to go back to wearing ear plugs again, it's a loud one. This will be the 7th motor I have had on the old boat. Probably won' be the last....

    Sweet!!
Yes, the folks along the Caloosahatchee are going to "Love" you!

I had a loud one that I ran in the larger canals in S Florida years ago and the people came out first to see what it was, then shaking their fists at me.... That was the last loud one I had, I put the can back in.

For what it's worth, I never saw much if any improvement with a drilled mid and no can. But in those days my 2.4 motors didn't have any real hot work done, just fine tuning the motor and rig setup.

P.S. I hope you will be surprised with what a properly set up PM will do for your boat!! I know you know how for sure.

Yeah James, had a offshore mid bridge port on the boat before and it was very loud. People hate you. It gets annoying. Made a block off for it after a while. It's such a good looking motor, the cool factor alone is enough. After seeing the nice ones on here, I've been looking for one. This one has a sporty on it and offshore bracket, I'm not sure about that...Might stick with the bobs and 3 ram trim bracket I have now. I'm planning on thinning my "herd" of motor and parts to finance this project. Goal is to make it look and run like new. Thinking about a cut mid, but there's more money and hassle......IDN if it's worth it.

I think for most of us river racer guys the short mid is for the cool look factor. Yes CG is lowered a bit, and a negligible amount of wind drag. Cool factor being #1.

Do I wish I had one for my V-KIng...heck yea, but can't justify the expense of converting the stock PM mid.

The J block 150 I am restoring is an SS, and if I still have my Vector when the time comes it will go on that. Only problem is it has the motor well delete, and I would really need to make one for it to do it correctly..imo

I run in salt water, so I need to keep the powerhead out of the salt. 20'' makes more sense for me I guess. A paralift would solve the problem with lowering it down enough, 5-6'' of setback at full up or down position. 13'' of travel.
