    Corelite board

Does anyone have any experience with this product? I'm looking at possibly using it to rebuild transom, stringers and floor of my Laser bassboat. One attraction to this product is the price pretty affordable just slightly more than marine ply.

Works excellent. The board is tough as hell and can be ordered in custom cut thickness and size. The board works well for transom/stringers, and the lightweight PET works for a floor, so long as you're not screwing anything to it. If you want the floor to act more like ply, just use the board like everywhere else.

Ok thanks. There is distributor not too far from me so I'm going to go and check them out.

I'm using Corelite board in my current project. See the link in my sig for my progress.

Using all 28 lb. corelite board for transom (4 layers of the 1/2" Corelite board with glass in between )and my stringers also in 1/2" thick.

Used Divinicell for my core with Medium 3:1 epoxy for resins. I had planned to use the Corelite Pet foam for my core, but when I went to order it, I was told I needed to buy a whole pallet of it...way more than I needed, so I bought the Divinicell H80 scrim backed and scored front for my V-King. Just the number of sheets I needed for my boat.

So far I am very impressed with it and it is so easy to work with. Epoxy grabs it like no tomorrow. I did some testing with some samples before I committed to using it.
Also used a sample of Coosa 26Lb. for testing. Me personally ... I like the corelite board better. jmo

The Corelite board comes from Ft Lauderdale, Fl. in 4'x8' sheets. I got mine in 1/2" thick sheets.

Here's an end shot of my pre-bonded 2" transom when it was still in the shipping box. If you have a distributor right there, then they should be able to get this done for you at no extra cost beyond the material.

If the surface is curved outward, the scrim goes on the top. If the curve is inward the scrim goes on the bottom. If flat it doesn't matter.

The scrim used in the H80 I bought was really just holds the scored material into sheets. Without the scrim ( mine was just a thin sheet of glass cloth on the back side) backing it would fall apart into small squares. At least the H80 I bought was this way. The scrim kerfs were cut deep down to the scrim base.

Guessing there are all kinds of variances in core design.

With scrim on the back and has small blocks it called CONTOURED FOAM !! FOR LAYING OVER CURVED SURFACES !! and yes there are many variations for many different uses in all the foam listings !!

That looks pretty solid. I was planning on going with 3 pieces of 3/4 material laid up with class in between. I have been told that this the stronger route. However I am open to suggestions because I plan on getting rid of the motor well and tying everything together.

It's likely 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other. One solid piece or a laminated layered transom.

My choice was the laminated layered one. 4 layers of 1/2" Corelite board and 2 layers 1708 back to back (csm side out towards the Corelite) between each layer of Corelite.

The final installed thickness was a fuzz over 2-1/2" thick, with 2 layers 1708 between the transom and hull skin, and 2 finishing layers over the transom extending to the sides several inches on the first one and then wing to wing on the final layer.

Motor well underside will be secured to the top of the center stringers, and both will be tied to the transom. The added glass I'll add in the motor well will add another 1/4" to the top 6" of the transom.

Maybe a bit of over kill, but it's one place I want extra strong.

The actual transom weighed 34 lbs. before glassing it into the hull.

Your post maybe a year ago is why I searched out Corelite.

PS...Love the new Avatar...Bought one of those new in 79 it was a 200. Hung it on a 15' lightened up Checkmate.
Mercury dealer wouldn't hang it for me, said boat was to small ....brought it home in a truck, and hung it myself. Wanted to anyway. Living in an apartment I had no garage to work out of. Found a carport to borrow for the work needed...

I was living in Dallas back then, used to frequent lake Dallas and Grapevine every day I had off from work.

Awesome. Tons of places up here, Possum Kingdom is by far my favorite though.

This is actually a 225 powerhead/cowling with NOS 150 decals on it. All on a 12" mid.
