need some advice from shaft drive racing

ive decided to restore a old wood racing boat '. something to play with. my ?? between 11 and 13 ft is what im thinking.. to save wight and make lots of hp . im looking at a snowmobile engine. very easy to work on and also cheap to buy. would be shaft drive and was wondering if this has been done yet and how did it work. would have between 100 and 140 hp. i no from boats i have had shaft drive robs hp and performance . but can be very reliable and simple to set up and maintain . just wondering if some old school racers here can give me some ideas . how well this set up will work. thanks dan . my last project . i turned a magnum missile tunnel into a flats boat . it works very well runs in 8 ins of water and is one of the most stable boat i have been on. but game wardens tend to stop me a little more then normal .as long as i stop just joking. was told by many it would not work well they where right it works great .

Save yourself a lot of time and buy an older waverunner and use the convert the power to your hull, they are already converted for marine use, and they are in abundance. You can easily find more than that HP if wanted. They are already setup for a shaft drive if you get rid of the pump or block it off and do what people call a "Propski" setup.....
