Yep. Propane torch and vice grips. Try to spin it back and forth and then pull.

Wrap some 120 sandpaper around the dowel before you grab on with the visegrips. It will help it grip.

Goodson tools has a collet style dowel pin puller that works great. On the really stuck ones coat the dowl with a little lapping compound for better traction

Map gas torch works best!enough heat and they come out fairly easy

Map gas torch is what I used. One came out easy but the other three were hand to hand combat. Thanks again.

My son bought a big block of bee's wax for like $6 at the swap meet . he cut it into strips and put them by the saws and vise .
I think the problem is that it's easy to get the dowel pin too hot . I use the wax to cool it down and it also wick's itself in the hole providing lubrication for the pin . If it still wont go , I get it all really hot and put the hose from a nitrous tank aiming at the pin , shrinks and will just about fall out by itself ...

Snap on makes similar tools. On smaller parts that have dowels stuck in them i grab them with the spindle collet on my bridgeport mill.

Ive always had success using a Brass rod and tap it in 4 positions and they have always come right out.

I like the idea of nitrous. I was thinking about maybe a piece of ice but figured it would melt so fast it would be a waste of time. I used almost all of above ideas except collets. They are like sleeves. Some release easily and some don't. This particular block had blown a head gasket and ran for a while so crank, rods, and sleeve were ruined. Got the sleeve in and was ready to bore when I noticed that during sleeving process another sleeve had turned. Finally got sleeves in proper locations and last night I got it decked. I about took a whippin on this one but looks like it's finally going to work. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Vise grips / slide hammer. Either weld a coupling nut to the side of pair of vise grips and thread your slide hammer into it or take the adjusting screw out and use a long threaded rod as the bar for the slide hammer.
