    How many people use peel on dayly basis on most every job ??

    Its magic stuff !! Not easy to use and lay down and has a few things you have to learn to get the best from it !Its a great way of saving resin on jobs and saving many hours of sanding or grinding !!
    Can stay put for months and doesn't need to be removed till its absolutely necessary for painting or the like !
    When its ripped off the surface leaves a 100% contaminate free surface that can be coated immediately over or bonded to without any further preparation necessary .
    When working inside a new hull its heaven and things like dirty feet prints and glue and dribbles or flow coat etc ec All come off as the peel ply is removed so no sanding, scraping or grinding required !! saves hours and hours of boring work and leaves a nice flat surface .
    For doing repair work it shows if the surface is how it should be and not hollow or raised to much is also able to hold wet glass over a open hole and prevent it from sagging Just lay the glass on the peel ply and drape it over the hole with some tape pulled tight to hold it firmly in place till its hard!
    Its list of uses is never ending
    when bagging down cores if the peel ply is laid carefully along and over edges the resin or corebond mix can suck out to the peel ply and it will give you a nice radiused edge or corner!, plus suck the adhesive into cracks and voids and again be filler level to the cores surface so hardly never have to do much filling any where !! if at all !

    when your not bagging do you have any tips on doing inside corners?

    Inside corners as in what and where ?? laying glass down into and around the corner ?? give me a hint of what you want to know please !!
    yes there are something all and everyone does that cause problems

    can just glass same as usual and peel ply in short bits over lapping to completely cover the whole of the wet glass surface or easier still use long strip , wide and do cuts about ever 80 mm just half way across the peel ply lay the long strip then unfold the short bits starting at one end so the overlaps cover the cut edges

    tell me do you cove the corners before glassing ?? what sized cove do you use if you do ??

    filling the corners is an interesting dilemma between getting a smooth transition for the cloth and not making a rigid hardpoint.
    I see on carbon boats now they mold the bulkheads with one side of the cloth drapped over one side so it hangs lower making a built in tab.
    They seem to plexus it down and thats it.

    SOUND INTERESTING TO SAY THE LEAST !!have you used Plexus for anything before ?? Its interesting stiff to use !! stinks a lot !! Here in the last boat boat company they bonded the hull and deck joins with a white 2 part construction adhesive! Man could it stick there was no way it would let go just tore the glass layer off or the sanded gel coated surface off the glass !, the adhesive never lets go of almost anything even aluminium and stainless steel so if some one stuck a deck fitting to a deck it didn't need screws almost !!

    Yes glues are amazing and used extensivly in aircraft and auto.
    Hence the continued development of them

    I am not a boat builder but due to my yacht racing have had the pleasure to see money no object boats that use the cutting edge ideas.
    Coming from a powerboat background i can see the huge gap.
    Also get to see repairs done buy todays carbonoligists some who have never used resin as whole career in pre preg

    That's a major problem when guys have specialize in just one thing haven't moved around and got a good grounding in everything !!
    One of the many reasons id never employ experienced people they are the next best thing to trouble as they are usually to set in there ways have leaned to many bad habits that get brushed on to others .
    Give me a bunch of newbies straight of the street corner any time even females and they don't have all the bad habits and bad attitudes and only know what you teach them !!.
    Employ then 10 at a time and in a month youll probably have 2 left that are any good , Any experienced guys the longer they been in the game the quicker I say no think you the jobs taken!! the more experienced they think they are the worst the attitude and you WILL have problems that you really don't need !!
    I only need to work alongside anyone for an hour to know if they are any good ! watch and learn !!

    Me I started in Yachts for a few years and a few different types , cursing is much different to racing ! specially world cruising that's a challenge !!, its different to survey as well and there are different survey standards in different countries ! In Tahiti I was fortunate to get a certificate to build deep water ,off shore fishing boats for the company I worked for !!
    Power boat are built nothing like yachts and as the sizes increase and the way they are rigged the changes THE BUILDING TECHNEQUES SO the ways of building is endless, Not forgetting keels !!
    Big power boats !! talking mega yachts are something else again and very interesting !!
    So to coin a phrase "WELCOME TO MY WORLD !!" Have been to all those places within the marine industry and that not touching on the industrial or commercial side of things !!and television and set making in composites that was mind blowing and loved every moment of it !

    F1 cars also are very interesting area of composites.
    They crash test them hence they are/have pioneered many technologies to help prevent the carbon explosion issues on failure
    The pbo tethers from uprights to the tub via the control arms are very cool.

    Im going to chime in on the non related to the tread sorry about that Re: experienced workers and set in there ways. I do agree 90% with this first off ill let you know. BUT Its that 10% you wish you can find. I know lots of experienced people in there fields that are totally set in there ways because it works for them for what time they think they have left doing anything. haha i respect that but at the same time hate that also. Especially when a NEW problem arises that even they haven't seen. I have found that if the boss, supervisor, specialist, or who ever is in charge is able to relate and respect the experienced persons knowledge and encourage them to expand into areas they are not comfortable in buy helping them understand that the base knowledge they have is so helpful in the fast changing techniques and materials the world keeps presenting itself with and they are going to be the lead talent helping pass on this new knowledge and to keep an open mind even though they have stern practices some times you can change the old dog into learning new tricks. When you find one of those 10% you have the golden employee! Dangling a carrot and money helps. haha But yes I do agree 90% with what you said otherwise because they are hard to find. just wanted to give that 10% credit for always thinking outside the box.

    Like building performance boats and the builder says the deck is double thru bolted to the hull.
    He has just created a major weak spot that will fail in an accident.
    Doing what they always did but no understanding of structual strength at all

    Crash testing is a whole thing on its own ! its partly what you use but its also how you use what you have chosen to use !. A place I worked we made ridged hulled inflatables . Just before I started a composite engineer ( I love these people )had drwn up the specs for this particular boat !! 6 were made and 6 were taking out in crazy surf and 6 boats failed in the same day mostly the same way they broke in places and ripped and tore on other places ! I was asked my opinion on why ( oh forgot they were as heavy as ) this had happened the engineer blamed the design !! The boats were laying in a heap outside with the tubes removed I saw immediately before I even opened the door of my car what the problems were !! ! very simple and because the engineer though he was the best he'd never bothered to see what the sea conditions were like that the boats were to operate in !! completely the WRONG GLASS had been used !! plus being heavy they wouldn't absorb shock loads when they landed on the wet sand at speed filled with 1/2 ton of water !! this is were the burst factor come in to play! and that's a killer .
    From the book of "common sense " is panels that wont bend and twist under load will always break at the weakest point to release there over load !!

    SO Dudley asked me to build him a boat how I thought it should be built ! ,so I spent a few hours at the beach watching the surf and the boats and what was expected from them !. I was given a free hand to use any materials and to buy what ever they didn't have so looked in the shelf and pulled a role of 450 csm and a roll of 600 gram unidirectional and that's what I used, just those two glasses part of the trick was knowing the capabilities of the uni and csm in combination but the METHOD AND THE WAY I USED THEM WAS THE WHOLE SECRET !!
    I have used the same principles and same materials on other boats as well and works every time !!

    Unidirectional glass EVEN WITH JUST PLAIN POLYESTER RESIN is almost indestructible, it will bend , it can twist and can tie it in knots !! let it go and goes straight back to what it was before with no signs of damage !
    Cut the story short the 4 boats I made were each under 1/3 the weigh of the others and even after a 4 month season of hard use by the surf life saving never has one single stress mark or crack any where ! The funny part was the inside suspended floor was one single layer of double bias glass gel coated ! was like a trampoline to stand and walk ,on soft and spongy !! that season the 4 crews there were no sprained ankles, and sore legs, or bruises !and no one could understand why!

    uni is amazing stuff in any material my son works 100% making carbon parts and now used much more uni fibres than he ever did and has almost no breakages at all simply by using uni fibres of carbon amongst the carbon laminate !!

    ohh something I worked on by myself was phenomenon called progressive distraction this was really interesting !!,
    How things destruct and how is it possible to delay the complete destruction and keep a person from getting seriously hurt in the process
    How to build things in such a way to delay the whole destruction process ! Instead of one hit it takes 3 of 4 hits and even then there still bit holding !!!

    ITS FOOD FOR THOUGHT would be interested to hear you opinions !!
