Help with hooking up Smartcraft Monitor 2002 300x
Need help with hooking up Smartcraft Monitor 2002 300x.
The following pics are my gauge and the two open plugs I see on the motor.
I found the parts list in my book.
Question 1: Do I really need this $50 junction box?
Question 2: What does "Termination resistor on this end" mean? (see pic motor side of diagram) Is this termination resistor part of the harness?
Question 3: Does Harness 84-879981T-20 have a plug on the end that fits one of the plugs on my engine.
Question 4: Do I really need the $10 weather cap and Termination resistor cap T-1 on the empty ports on the junction box or can i tape them or silicone them up since I will never need more ports?
I'm hoping all I need is Harness PN 84-879981T-20. Anyone confirm that this just extends the plug and adapts it to the engine side?

Anyone know? I ordered harness since I was putting an order in anyway. I figure I definitely need that.

What motor harness do you have? I am guessing old? If so you will need the smart craft harness and a junction block. Terminator on the block also. And a harness that goes from junction block to the tach...

Oh Im no guru just how mine is set up. Did one in a 24 super but put a verado with power steering and fly by wire shift and throttle in that so the j box was needed so eveything can communicate with the computer.

When i added smartcraft nmea2000 gateway module to my old boat I had the blue cable with yellow resistor ends, and a male to male adapter to bypass using the junction box as I didn't have any other SC gauges, http://www.veradoclubparts.com/CABLE...-892452t01.htm this allowed me to plug the module directly to the harness

May be that some harness's will hook up directly to the tach. I got curious and tried to do that with mine. Wouldn't work.

What's the part number on the monitor? I have the old square looking one in my Cougar and it's acting funny... goes blank at times.

My monitor? It's 79-892219K19
So I have it all hooked up now and engine rigged and turned the key on yesterday and the Smartcraft doesn't power on. A couple people have told me the think it only comes on with the engine running. I'm not at the point to test run my engine yet. Is this true or is something wrong? Is the power supposed to come through the CAN cable or does it need keyswitch power to the purple wire? The book says the purple and tan/blue stripe wires coming out of the Smartcraft gauge (see letter C in the pic below) are for "depth finder warning horn"
I get the feeling this thing needs power to that purple....2004 Hydra-Sports Vector 2600 - twin 225 Yamahas

I have the older SM and it powers up with just key on. Also gets it power through the SM harness.
