There is a small, flat dimple in the cylinder head near the top. grind the paint off the dimple. Using a "Z" bracket, attach the bracket to an adjacent 1/4" bolt and screw the sender down until it makes good contact. I use thermal paste (the stuff you use on CPU's in a computer) such as arctic ice. Teleflex make a specific sender and bracket for that purpose. The standard sender will give a false reading.

You can also make a place to put the sender in the actual water jacket the same way I discribed adding a water pressure fitting in this thread: http://www.screamandfly.com/showthre...ure-connection

That will work but water under that cover is after the thermostat and no pressure so can vary compared to core engine temp. My experience on xflow V6 the best water temp reading is to drill and tap 1/8npt in top of cylinder head just in front of the thermostat. One in each head and two gauges. Or use the thermocouple rings under sparkplugs for cylinder head temp.
