    16amp rectifier to regulator

I didn't want to hijack a post, so started another one. I currently am only running a rectifier, sometimes I get over 15 amps. I have a couple of extra regulators laying around. Can anyone tell me how to rig up a regulator? Thanks

Which type regulators do you have? Are they the old style small regulators, or the new larger 40 amp style that has the rectifier built into them?

I think older style. Roughly 2 1/4" square. Clear/yellowish fronts. I think 5 or 6 wires coming out of each. Sorry I can't give better answer. I'm at the lake for ten days and don't have them in front of me. Going off poor memory alone.

That's the new style, those have the rectifier built it in. You will need a bracket to mount it to that is well grounded to mota. Remove the old rectifier, hook yellow wires from stator to yellow wires on regulator, grey wire for tach to reg, red wire from reg to hot post of starter solonoid ( or red wire from old rectifier), if has the black wire on reg it goes to ground.

As stated above, try to make your mounting bracket act as a heat sink,or have good air flow around it.

I'd monitor your voltage to see if in fact you need one at all

I've seen it spike to 16 if running hard. Kinda scares me

If your not running anything(electric fuel pump) extra, and carbs,it may be wise to regulate it.

I would say Mercury is best, but I've used cdi with good sucess and it comes in a kit with the bracket for use on 16 amp system if needed

Also the latter style regulators are electronic and do not like voltage spikes. Make sure all connections are clean and tight including battery. And don't unhook batteries with engine running or you'll let the smoke out
